Chainmail Haubergeon Shirt, Butted Mild Steel Rings, 4-in-1 Pattern
Construction and Design
The shirt is crafted from mild steel links with a wire gauge of 16 (approx. 1.3 mm). It utilizes the classic "International" 4-in-1 pattern, where four links are woven through a fifth central link. Being a butted mail shirt, the ends of the rings are simply pressed together rather than riveted. The design is that of a standard haubergeon – reaching mid-thigh length with sleeves that hang just below the elbows. This ensures excellent torso protection while maintaining wrist mobility for weapon handling.

History and Usage
Mail, possibly derived from the Latin macula (net), was the primary form of defense for European warriors for centuries. While historical combat relied on riveted mail for structural integrity, modern butted mail is excellent for capturing the historical aesthetic. This shirt is suitable for portraying characters from the Roman era through to the late Middle Ages.
Care Instructions
As this shirt is made from mild steel, rust is your main concern. Always dry the mail thoroughly after use. We recommend keeping the shirt lightly oiled (e.g., with WD-40 or gun oil) when not in use and storing it in a dry place to prevent corrosion.
Safety Warning
Please note that this armor is made of butted rings. Under heavy impact or strong tension, the rings will open and may fall out. This product is NOT suitable for full-contact combat sports like Buhurt or Battle of the Nations. For comfort, shock absorption, and to prevent chafing, you should always wear a padded gambeson underneath.
We recommend pairing this shirt with a matching butted mail coif and a sturdy leather belt to help distribute the weight from your shoulders to your hips.
