Decorative Equestrian Statue of Knight El Cid in Plate Armour (c. 1043 – 1099)
Adorn your home with a striking piece of heroic Spanish history! This masterfully crafted equestrian statue depicts the famous Castilian knight Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, widely known as El Cid. Although this legendary warlord lived in the 11th century, the statue presents him in the romanticised guise of a noble knight in full plate armour with a closed armet helmet. Precise details made of hardened pewter, hand-applied colourful enamel, and a magnificent caparison crafted from blue velvet give this artwork a touch of pure luxury. Remember the timeless virtues of chivalry and enrich your study or living room with this majestic decoration. Further product information ...

Decorative Equestrian Statue of Knight El Cid in Plate Armour
Artistic Craftsmanship and Dynamic Pose
The statue captures the knight in the saddle of a rearing black steed. The warrior is fully armed; in his right hand, he grips a long lance bearing a red banner, whilst his left hand holds a heraldic shield. This dynamic, triumphant position symbolises unbreakable courage, battle readiness, and chivalric dominance. It is a highly decorative item whose core is sculpted from a special sculptural resin called polyresin and durable polypropylene. Every detail is meticulously hand-painted. The armour of both the horse and the knight is cast from hardened pewter, finished with a black electrolytic treatment and further adorned with blue, red, and white enamel. The lifelike quality is enhanced by the textile elements—a blue velvet cloak and a caparison complete with embroidered golden trimmings.
The Historical Legacy of El Cid
Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (c. 1040–1099) was a legendary Castilian warrior and national hero, famous for his exploits during the Reconquista in the Iberian Peninsula. From an armourial historian's perspective, it is fascinating to note a distinct detail: El Cid lived during the early Middle Ages, an era when warriors wore mail hauberks and conical helmets. This statue, however, depicts him in a heavily anachronistic, romanticised style of the Late Middle Ages. The full plate armour, the closed armet helmet, and the lavishly decorated caparison correspond far more closely to the tournament and parade armours of the 15th and 16th centuries. Nevertheless, this style of depiction remained typical for centuries in artworks intended to celebrate and elevate chivalric legends.
Ideal Placement and Maintenance
This magnificent equestrian statue will naturally become the focal point of your study, historical library, or formal living room, evoking the grand atmosphere of ancient castle halls. Please note that this is an exclusive interior decoration and the product is strictly not suitable for outdoor use. Exposure to the elements, moisture, and sunlight would quickly degrade the fabrics and fade the vibrant colours. To keep it looking its best, simply dust the statue regularly with a soft, dry brush or a feather duster. Refrain from using damp cloths or any harsh chemical cleaners.
Recommended Accessories
We highly recommend pairing this majestic statue with a wall-mounted replica of the famous Tizona or Colada swords, which legend claims belonged to El Cid, to create a comprehensive and breathtaking display of Spanish history.
