Design and Construction
This pauldron is built to last. It consists of two pieces of genuine buffalo leather, joined by rivets and decorative leather lacing. This articulation allows for movement, so the pauldron doesn't impede your arm. The upper plate is wider, covering the shoulder joint, while the lower plate, which tapers to a point, protects the bicep. The entire surface is decorated with impressive embossing of powerful Norse symbols.
The fastening system is designed for stability. At the top, there is a leather loop through which you can thread a strap from a gorget or a separate shoulder strap. A long leather strap with a brass buckle extends from the pauldron itself, which is worn across the chest and under the opposite arm to be fastened. This secures the pauldron firmly in place, even during active movement.
Symbolism and History
The embossing on this pauldron is rich with meaning. Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life, is a giant ash tree in Norse mythology that connects the nine worlds. It is a symbol of the cosmos, life, and destiny. Mjöllnir, Thor's Hammer, is a symbol of strength, protection from evil, and blessing. Viking warriors often wore Mjöllnir amulets into battle for protection. By wearing this pauldron, you symbolically carry both of these powerful symbols.
Although such ornate leather armour is more typical of modern portrayals of Vikings in fantasy, LARP, and cosplay, leather as a material was widely used by Vikings due to its availability, relative lightness, and ability to provide protection against cuts and the elements.

Use and Care
This pauldron is ideal for costume events. Please be aware that this is a costume armour piece. It is not designed or certified for full-contact combat, buhurt (HMB), or the Battle of the Nations. It only provides protection within the padded-weapon rules of LARP.
To keep your leather pauldron looking great for a long time:
- Protect it from prolonged exposure to moisture. If it gets wet, let it dry slowly at room temperature (never on a heater or in direct sunlight).
- Remove dirt with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
- Occasionally treat the leather with a suitable leather balm or wax to keep it supple and protected.
- Store it in a dry, ventilated area, preferably hanging or lying flat.
For a complete Viking look, we recommend combining this pauldron with a leather gorget, bracers, or a leather cuirass featuring similar motifs.
