It is crafted from butted rings of mild steel with an inner diameter of approx. 9 mm. The main body is protected by blackened rings, which contrast beautifully with the shiny zinc-plated rings on the shoulders, cuffs, and bottom hem. Two-Tone Chainmail Hauberk, size L/XL, 9mm Butted Rings, Blackened / Zinc-Plated
This chainmail shirt is woven in the traditional European 4-in-1 pattern. The main part of the torso and sleeves is made from steel with a blackened finish, which provides basic corrosion protection and a striking appearance. The shoulders, sleeve ends, and bottom hem, however, are made from shiny, silvery rings with a zinc-plated (galvanised) finish. This contrasting design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also historically inspired.
The shirt features long sleeves and extends to about mid-thigh. For convenience, the front of the shirt is fitted with three leather toggles, making it easier to put on and take off. There is a vent (split) in the centre-back, ensuring maximum freedom of movement, which you will appreciate especially when walking, running, or riding.
This type of chainmail armour (hauberk) was the standard protection for warriors for many centuries, particularly in the High Middle Ages. The butted rings make it an ideal choice for LARP, cosplay, theatre, or light historical re-enactment where the focus is not on full-contact combat. This armour is not suitable for full-contact HEMA or battles (buhurt), as butted rings can be forced open by strong impacts.

Care Instructions
As the shirt is made from mild steel, it is susceptible to rust. Both the blackened and zinc-plated finishes offer only temporary protection.
- After each use: Dry the armour thoroughly. Never leave it sweaty or wet.
- Storage: Store it in a dry and ventilated place. Never leave it in a damp bag or chest.
- Maintenance: Regularly treat the shirt with a conservation oil (e.g., Ballistol). The blackened rings may lose colour over time due to abrasion, which is a normal characteristic. The zinc coating provides better protection, but it can also be mechanically damaged.
- What to avoid: Do not leave the armour in damp conditions. It is not designed for full-contact combat.
Recommended Accessories
For a complete and comfortable look, we recommend wearing this chainmail shirt over a gambeson (padded jacket), which cushions blows and prevents chafing. Don't forget a sturdy leather belt to help distribute the armour's weight from your shoulders to your hips. Take a look at our gambesons (SKU 100311) or leather belts (SKU 231405), for example.
