Carmine Red Drinking Horn, 400–500 ml
A Look That Stands Apart
This red horn is instantly different from traditional designs. Its surface is perfectly polished and shiny, with a rich carmine shade that resembles the colour of wine or a precious ruby. Despite the intense colour, the horn's natural darker streaks and grain are still visible, revealing its authentic origin. Thanks to the absence of metal fittings, the horn has a minimalist, clean, and authentically raw feel. Each piece is unique, and its length varies between 28–35 cm.
The Perfect Accessory for Any Warrior
Whether you're heading to a Viking feast, a medieval market, or a themed party, this carmine horn will give you a touch of originality. It is suitable not only for drinking beer, mead, or other cold beverages, but also as an eye-catching decoration for your home, which you can display on a shelf or in a cabinet. It also makes a wonderful and unique gift.
A History of Drinking Horns: A Vessel for All Occasions
Drinking from horns has a thousand-year-old tradition across many cultures, from the Vikings, Germanic tribes, and Celts to the peoples of antiquity. Horns were a readily available material and, due to their natural hollow shape, ideal for making drinking vessels. They were used for both ritual purposes and everyday drinking. In the early Middle Ages, horns were often unadorned, and their beauty lay in their simplicity and natural origin.
Fun Fact: How Were Horns Coloured Historically?
While carvings and metal fittings were common, dyeing horns to such a saturated and uniform shade is more typical of modern craftsmanship. In the past, natural dyes (e.g., from plants) were used, but the resulting colours were not as vibrant and faded over time. The striking carmine colour is, therefore, a modern modification that highlights the natural beauty of the material and gives it a unique character.
Caring for Your Carmine Horn
To ensure your horn serves you well for a long time and remains undamaged, it is necessary to care for it properly. The inside of the horn is treated with a food-safe resin lacquer that prevents liquid absorption.
- Suitable Drinks: Beer, mead, wine, cider, water, and not overly acidic soft drinks. It is safe for beverages with an alcohol content of up to 20%.
- Unsuitable Drinks and Treatment: Never wash it in a dishwasher, do not heat it in a microwave, and do not use it for hot drinks. High temperatures could irreversibly damage the protective layer.
- Cleaning: After each use, wash it by hand with lukewarm water and dry it.
- Maintenance: To prolong its life and shine, we recommend occasionally treating the horn with beeswax.
