Medieval Girls Cotton Dress 11th-15th Century Historical Costume

Historical Context and How to Wear It

Long-sleeved dresses with a simple A-line silhouette formed the absolute foundation of a woman's and girl's wardrobe throughout the entire medieval period. From the 11th to the 15th century, noblewomen wore them as an underlayer (cotte) beneath richer overgarments, while for commoners and children, they frequently served as the primary and only outer garment. This particular style, featuring a practical small V-neck slit for easy dressing over the head, was worn almost everywhere across Europe. Because the dress is unlined, it is an ideal choice for wearing in warm weather. To achieve the perfect period-accurate look, gather the fabric at the waist using a belt, which also allows you to easily adjust the overall length of the hem.

How to Care for the Dress

Because the fabric is treated with natural dyes, it requires gentle care. Always turn the dress inside out before washing. We strongly advise washing it exclusively by hand, separately, in cold water (maximum 30 °C / 86 °F) using a very small amount of mild detergent. Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals under any circumstances, as they will destroy both the colour and the cotton fibres. After washing, let the dress air dry naturally; never put it in a tumble dryer.

Please note: The delivery includes the dress only. The leather belt shown in the photographs is not included.

We recommend complementing this medieval dress with a narrow leather belt, a leather pouch, and a pair of historical leather shoes to brilliantly complete the overall historical outfit.
