The Story of Edward, the Black Prince
Edward of Woodstock, Prince of Wales (1330–1376), known as the Black Prince (likely due to the color of his armor), was the eldest son of King Edward III of England. He became famous as one of the most successful English commanders during the Hundred Years' War. His brilliant victories at the battles of Crécy (1346) and Poitiers (1356), where he even captured the French King John II, made him a legend in his own lifetime. He was the epitome of the chivalric ideals of his era – brave, generous, and a capable commander.
Typological Classification
Visually, this replica corresponds to the typical war swords used in the 14th century. With its slim, tapering blade designed primarily for thrusting, it belongs to Type XVa in the Oakeshott typology. This type of sword was popular with knights in plate armor as it allowed for effective attacks into the gaps between armor plates.
Care and Safe Use
The stainless steel blade is low-maintenance. We recommend keeping the hilt dry and clean and occasionally polishing it with a soft, dry cloth.
Important Notice: This is a decorative replica and a letter opener, not a weapon. Although it has a sharp point, it is not intended for combat, cutting, or any other practical use other than opening mail. Handle it responsibly and keep it out of the reach of children.
