Although you are holding a weapon inspired purely by literary and cinematic fantasy, its proportions are derived from the historical bastard sword (or hand-and-a-half sword), which dominated European battlefields from the 14th to the 16th centuries. Bastard swords were favored for their incredible versatility—the longer grip allowed for a devastating two-handed strike, while the overall weight still permitted nimble one-handed fencing if the warrior carried a shield in their off-hand. While the crossguard and pommel utilized here do not formally adhere to the strict Oakeshott typology of medieval swords, they perfectly fulfill the aesthetic requirements for the weapon of a mysterious knight or a lone monster hunter from beloved fantasy sagas.
Crucial Safety Warnings
This sword is classified and intended by the manufacturer strictly as a decorative item. For safety reasons, we must issue a very strong warning: the weapon is under no circumstances intended for contact Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), theatrical and stage combat, LARP battles, or for conducting cutting tests (tameshigiri)! While the 420 stainless steel used is excellent for aesthetic purposes, it is inherently brittle during blade-on-blade impacts and could easily snap, which would lead to serious injury to yourself or bystanders.
Care and Maintenance of the Weapon
Since the blade is constructed from stainless steel, maintaining it is relatively undemanding. Nevertheless, we recommend gently wiping the weapon with a dry cloth after every touch with bare hands to remove aggressive sweat, and occasionally applying a very thin layer of silicone or gun oil. To preserve the clean look of the black scabbard and fittings, avoid contact with sharp objects that could scratch the surface.
