Are you looking for a piece of armour that perfectly balances protection, weight, and mobility? This riveted chainmail haubergeon is an essential addition to your kit, whether you represent a foot soldier from the 12th century or a fantasy warrior at a LARP event. Unlike the full-length hauberk, this shorter version with half-sleeves allows for unrestricted movement, making it ideal for long days on the battlefield or on stage. Riveted Chainmail Haubergeon, 10 mm Round Rings, Short Sleeves
Historical Context and Usage
The haubergeon is essentially a shorter, lighter version of the hauberk. Gaining popularity in the 12th and 13th centuries, it was the favoured armour of infantry, light cavalry, and archers who needed to remain agile. Worn over a padded gambeson, which absorbed the blunt force of impacts, the maille provided excellent defence against slashing attacks. Its practical design ensured it remained in use for centuries, evolving alongside plate armour components.
Construction and Design
This armour is forged from mild steel and hand-linked in the traditional European "4-in-1" weave pattern. Its key features include:
- Round Rings: Traditional wire profile for a classic look.
- Round Riveted: Each ring is secured with a round rivet, significantly increasing the structural integrity of the weave compared to non-riveted alternatives.
- Half Sleeves: Sleeves ending above the elbow provide torso protection while leaving the forearms free for gauntlets or vambraces.
The finish is natural (oiled), giving the steel a dark, utilitarian appearance typical of medieval munitions-grade armour.

Care Instructions
As this product is made from mild steel, it is susceptible to rust if not cared for properly:
- Oiling: Keep the maille lightly coated with oil at all times. Gun oil or mineral oil works well.
- Cleaning: After use, wipe down the armour to remove sweat and moisture, then re-oil immediately.
- Storage: Store in a dry, ventilated area. Do not leave it inside a damp bag.
Safety Note: While this chainmail is riveted and durable, it is a replica designed for re-enactment, LARP, and stage use. It is not rated for full-contact heavy combat (such as Buhurt or Battle of the Nations). High-impact competitive fighting requires specialised hardened steel armour to ensure safety.
