Great Wave (Nami) Wakizashi, Functional T10 Steel Sword
Are you looking for a reliable and elegant wakizashi for cutting practice? The Great Wave (Nami) Wakizashi from the renowned Hanwei brand is an excellent choice. This sword is not just a beautiful collector's item, but also a fully functional tool. Its hand-forged blade is crafted from T10 high-carbon steel and is differentially hardened, giving it a distinctive hamon line and exceptional sharpness. The sword's design is unified by the Tomoe motif (often associated with waves or the god Hachiman), which adorns the guard (tsuba), hilt fittings (fuchi and kashira), and ornaments (menuki). The blackened steel fittings and a deep black lacquered saya give the sword a serious and traditional appearance. It is ideal for Tameshigiri (cutting tests) and will complement your collection of Japanese weapons. Further product information ...
Great Wave (Nami) Wakizashi, Functional T10 Steel Sword
Fully Functional Sword with Tomoe Motif
This wakizashi from Paul Chen's (Hanwei) forge is the embodiment of functional beauty. The T10 steel blade is forged and hardened using a traditional claying method, resulting in an authentic and clearly visible temper line (hamon). The blade boasts an extended tip (o-kissaki) and is designed to excel in cutting tests.
The fittings (koshirae) are crafted from blackened steel and feature a unifying design element – the Japanese Tomoe symbol. You will find this motif on the cut-out guard (sukashi tsuba), the hilt collar (fuchi), and the pommel (kashira). The hilt (tsuka) is wrapped in genuine ray skin (same-kawa) and covered with a premium black Japanese cotton (ito). The scabbard (saya) has a deep black lacquer finish and is complemented by a matching black cotton cord (sageo).

Use, Safety, and Maintenance
This wakizashi is designed as a functional weapon for tameshigiri (cutting tests on soft targets, such as tatami-omote mats). It is not a weapon for contact sparring (sword-on-sword combat).
IMPORTANT WARNING: The blade is extremely sharp and poses a serious danger. This is not a toy. Exercise maximum caution when handling it to prevent serious (even fatal) injury to yourself or third parties. Always use the sword in a safe area and at your own risk. Keep it out of reach of children.
Sword Care: T10 carbon steel requires regular maintenance to prevent rust. After each use (even after just touching it), wipe the blade with a clean cloth and oil it (we recommend Hanwei oil, for example). Store the sword in a dry environment. Do not strike hard objects such as wood, bone, or metal with it.
The Tomoe Motif and the Great Wave
Although the sword's name refers to the "Great Wave", the central motif is the Tomoe. This is an ancient Japanese symbol resembling a swirl or spiral. It most commonly appears as the Mitsudomoe (three "drops"), which can symbolise the triad of heaven, earth, and man, or is closely associated with Hachiman, the Shinto god of war and protector of the samurai. The connection to the water element (a whirlpool) is evident here, elegantly linking both motifs.
