In the Middle Ages, and particularly during the harsh Viking Age, a sword was an immensely valuable possession, often passed down from generation to generation. A high-quality scabbard was an absolute necessity to protect the weapon from omnipresent rust and the blunting of the edge. This specific model stands out with a complex braid of leather straps in the upper and lower parts of the suspension, evoking the interwoven lines typical of Norse and Celtic art. The embossed knot itself, inspired by archaeological finds from the Orkney Islands, symbolised infinity, life force, and the interconnectedness of fate in mythology. Usage Instructions and Proper Care

This product is made exactly to measure. After placing an order, you will need to fill in a table with the dimensions of your sword so the scabbard fits absolutely perfectly. The long belt, finished with a forged buckle, allows for versatile wearing – traditionally, the scabbard was worn suspended on a strap over the shoulder (as a baldric), but it can also be comfortably positioned looser on the hip. To maintain a long lifespan and flexibility, we recommend regularly treating the leather with a high-quality beeswax balm. This ensures the hide remains resistant to rain and will not crack. Occasionally rub the iron belt buckle lightly with WD40 oil to prevent corrosion.

Safety and Warnings

Never sheathe a blade that is wet, heavily soiled, or covered in a layer of fresh mud. Moisture trapped inside the leather would quickly lead to deep corrosion of your sword. Never dry the leather scabbard near an open fire, on a radiator, or in direct, fierce sunlight, as this could cause irreversible shrinkage and hardening. Simply wipe any dirt off the surface gently with a damp cloth and let the leather dry naturally at room temperature.
