Musashi Samurai Sword Set: The Legacy of the Dual-Wielding Legend
Symbolism and Design
The main distinguishing feature of this set is the iconic handguard (tsuba) in the shape of a double ring (known as Namako Sukashi). This design was Musashi's personal favorite for its simplicity, practicality, and elegance. No unnecessary ornaments, just pure function and the symbolism of infinity. The blades are made of carbon steel, giving them a realistic look and weight. This is not cheap stainless tin, but a material that requires care like a real weapon.
The handle (tsuka) is made of wood and covered with imitation ray skin, over which a black cotton wrap (ito) is tightly bound. Golden ornaments (menuki) peek out from under the wrapping, adding a touch of luxury to the all-black design. The scabbards (saya) are made of lacquered wood in a matte black finish, highlighting the austere aesthetics of samurai Zen calm.
Historical Context: Who was Musashi?
Miyamoto Musashi (1584–1645) was a ronin who was allegedly never defeated in any of his more than 60 duels to the death. He is the author of The Book of Five Rings, a seminal work on strategy and combat. He became famous for fighting with two swords simultaneously – a Katana in one hand and a Wakizashi in the other. This set (Daisho) symbolizes precisely this technique. The Katana was used for open-field combat, while the shorter Wakizashi was used in confined indoor spaces and served as the samurai's "guardian of honor."

Care and Safety Instructions
Since the blades are made of carbon steel, they are not stainless. Humidity and acids from human sweat can cause corrosion. Therefore, never touch the blade with bare hands. If this happens, or if you want to clean the swords, wipe the blade dry and apply a thin layer of preservative oil (e.g., clove oil for swords or a universal oil like WD-40). Regularly check the handle wrapping to ensure it remains tight.
Important Warning: This set is primarily intended for decoration or for practicing drawing (Iaido) and forms (Kata) without contact. The swords are not designed for cutting tests (Tameshigiri) or full-contact combat. The blade material and handle construction may not withstand impact against hard objects, which could lead to damage to the sword or injury. Treat them with respect, as you would a real weapon.
For perfect maintenance of your new set, I recommend getting a traditional Japanese sword cleaning kit with oil and powder ball.
