Long Medieval Leather Sword Belt with Authentic Double Wrap
Construction and Historical Background of the Sword Frog
In the Middle Ages, carrying a sword safely and comfortably was an absolute necessity. The weight of a one-handed or longsword required ingenious suspension systems so that the weapon did not restrict the warrior's movement while remaining instantly accessible. The double-wrap system replicated by this belt is rooted in the practical needs of fighters. It consists of a single, very long leather strap. You first wrap it around your waist, pass it through the leather loop on the opposite side, wrap it a second time, and finally secure it with the silver-coloured metal buckle. The weapon is held in adjustable leather loops connected by a metal ring, allowing the sword to naturally follow the movement of your legs as you walk or run.
How to Properly Maintain Your Leather Belt
The sword belt is crafted from robust cowhide leather approximately 3 mm (0.12 inches) thick. To ensure the leather retains its strength and flexibility, we recommend regularly treating it with a high-quality beeswax-based leather balm. If you are caught in the rain on the battlefield, wipe the belt with a dry cloth after the action and let it air dry at room temperature. Never dry the leather directly near an open fire or on a radiator, as this would cause it to irreversibly harden and crack.
Safety Guidelines and Recommended Accessories
For safety reasons, this belt is designed exclusively for carrying swords properly seated within a scabbard, or for carrying blunt fencing weapons (e.g., for HEMA or stage combat) that lack sharp edges or a point. Never carry an uncovered sharp blade in this frog, as you would risk severe injury to yourself and those around you. Under no circumstances should this leather product be used as climbing equipment; never use it for rappelling or securing persons.
To accompany this sword belt, we highly recommend acquiring a high-quality leather sword scabbard that seats perfectly within the belt loops, along with a functional blunt sword for historical fencing.
