The design of this round mount is based on period artwork and archaeological finds dating from the 14th to 15th centuries (High and Late Middle Ages). During this era, belts evolved into paramount fashion statements and status symbols across Western and Central Europe.

Circular mounts (often termed belt stiffeners or studs) fulfilled both practical and aesthetic functions. Riveted onto leather straps, these brass plates reinforced the leather to prevent sagging under the weight of suspended swords, daggers, or pouches while forming an opulent decorative display. Solar and radiating motifs were immensely popular in Gothic iconography, symbolizing light, nobility, and vitality.

Mounting and Attachment Instructions

Attaching this mount to a leather belt is straightforward and easy to accomplish in your workshop:

• Prepare the Hole: Position the mount onto the desired spot on your leather strap, mark the center through the hole in the mount (measuring approx. 4.16 mm / 0.16 in in diameter), and punch a hole in the leather.
• Insert Rivet: Insert a brass dome-head or flat-head rivet from the front face through the mount and leather strap.
• Peening: Place a washer over the rivet shank on the backside of the belt and gently peen it flat against the leather using a hammer. Alternatively, the mount can be secured using a split-pin fastener or stitched with heavy waxed linen thread.

• Wipe dry with a soft cotton cloth after exposure to rain, moisture, or sweat.
• To restore high luster, polish the surface using a dedicated brass polishing paste or a soft felt buffing wheel.
• Exercise care during riveting to avoid striking and marring the raised relief on the front face.
• Keep out of reach of small children due to choking hazards.
