Modern Design and Materials

The sword features a straight, single-edged blade, typical of the modern interpretation of Ninjato swords. The blade is made of 420 stainless steel and has a black finish that reduces glare and gives the weapon a tactical look. A distinctive feature is the longitudinal cutouts in the blade, which serve to lighten it and shift the centre of gravity closer to the handle.

The handle is traditionally wrapped in black cord (Tsuka-ito), ensuring a firm and non-slip grip. The guard (Tsuba) has a unique geometric shape resembling a cross, adding a fantasy touch to the sword. Included in the package is a durable sheath made of Cordura (nylon), equipped with adjustable straps that allow you to comfortably carry the sword on your back.

History vs. Hollywood

While this sword represents pop culture, real Ninjas (Shinobi) in feudal Japan used a wide range of weapons. These were often modified farming tools that did not attract attention. The straight sword worn on the back is more of a myth popularized by the film industry, as drawing a long sword from the back is biomechanically difficult and slow. Real ninjas preferred shorter swords that were easy to conceal and use in the tight spaces of castle corridors. Nevertheless, this "movie" appearance has become iconic, and this sword pays tribute to it.

Care and Safety Warning

Please bear in mind that this is a decorative item. The blade is made of stainless steel, which, while resistant to rust, is more brittle than carbon steel. The sword is not intended for cutting (tameshigiri) or contact fencing (blade on blade)! Striking hard objects carries a risk of the blade breaking and causing injury. The sword is suitable for practice drawing (non-contact), as a prop, or for decoration. Keep the blade clean and occasionally treat it with oil.
