12 Aluminium Bolts for Pistol Crossbows
Running out of bolts right in the middle of the action? That is every shooter's nightmare, but with this set of twelve, you will always have plenty of ammunition. These aluminium bolts represent a significant quality upgrade over basic plastic variants. Thanks to the shaft made of a light but strong aluminium alloy, they are more stable, accurate, and have much higher penetrating power. The gold anodised finish gives them not only an attractive appearance but also protection against corrosion. They are fitted with a sharp metal point and black plastic vanes, ensuring stable flight. This is the ideal choice for pistol crossbow owners who are serious about shooting and want reliable ammunition for target practice in the garden or at the range. Further product information ...
Set of 12 Aluminium Bolts for Pistol Crossbows – 6.4" (Gold Edition)
Usage and Compatibility
These bolts are designed for most common pistol crossbows with a draw weight of 50 to 80 lbs (e.g., models hs40841 and hs30944). Thanks to the aluminium body, they can withstand stronger draw weights where plastic bolts might warp. However, compatibility must be checked – they are not suitable for specific models such as the Panther, Cheetah, or X-Match, which require a different type of ammunition. The bolt is inserted into the crossbow groove so that one of the vanes points down into the rail (if the crossbow has a groove), or according to the specific weapon's instructions.

Historical Context: From Quarrel to Bolt
Short projectiles for crossbows were historically called "quarrels" (from the French carré – square, referring to the often square-profiled forged heads). In the Middle Ages, these projectiles were short and massive to withstand the enormous energy transferred by the string over a short distance. While wood was available, it often split. The modern age brought aluminium – a material that medieval crossbowmen did not know, but would certainly have loved for its uniformity. Every aluminium bolt weighs the same and is perfectly straight, guaranteeing shooting consistency that archers in the Hundred Years' War could not even dream of.
Care and Safety Principles
Although aluminium is more durable than plastic or wood, it is not indestructible. To make your bolts last a long time, follow these rules:
- Suitable Target Butt: This is absolutely essential. Shoot only at foam or straw target butts designed for crossbows. If you hit a wooden fence, tree, or stone, the aluminium shaft will immediately bend or break and the point will be destroyed. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.
- Ammunition Check: Before every load, check that the bolt is not bent and the vanes are holding firmly. Shooting with a damaged bolt is inaccurate and can damage the crossbow.
- Lubrication: For easier retrieval from the target and shaft protection, you can occasionally treat the bolts with silicone oil or string wax.
I recommend adding high-quality string wax to your basket with this set, as frequent shooting dries out the string quickly.
