High Gothic Leather Boots with Pointed Toe and Decorative Cuff
Historical Context and Unique Design
The elongated and slightly upturned toe, often referred to as poulaines or crakows, was the absolute hit of European fashion from the 12th to the 15th century. A simple rule applied here: the longer the toe, the higher and wealthier the status its wearer usually demonstrated. Additionally, this model stands out with an original folded cuff featuring lily-like decorative cut-outs, which give the footwear a luxurious aristocratic character. The back lacing is an extremely practical period element. Thanks to it, the footwear reliably and firmly embraces your calf, whether you are wearing tight-fitting hose or slightly thicker linen trousers.
Material, Colour Variants, and Choosing the Height
The upper of the boots is honestly sewn from high-quality cowhide. A major benefit of this model is the modern rubber sole. Although it represents a slight concession from historical accuracy, it radically reduces the risk of a fatal slip on wet grass, in mud, and on modern city cobblestones. The shoe is thus much safer for fencing and active movement.
The standard height of the footwear is approximately 35 cm (13.8 in). However, when choosing the custom-made option, you can specify your own overall height (measured from the floor). For functional and anatomical reasons, we strongly advise against choosing a height reaching higher than 5 cm (2 in) below your kneecap, so the edge of the boot does not restrict you from comfortably bending your knee. The standard leather colours are black, dark brown, and light brown (natural). Other shades are achieved by applying a special topcoat dye, with which the natural property of patent leathers must be expected – small cracks may form in the creases over time.
Leather Care and Adjustment with Insoles
From the factory, the footwear is carefully treated with a beeswax balm that impregnates, softens, and tints it to a slightly darker shade. To maintain a long lifespan and flexibility, the leather must be regularly nourished with waxes, leather oils, or standard shoe polish, which additionally allows you to easily cover any scuffs from regular wear. Under no circumstances should you dry the footwear near a direct heat source, such as an open fire or a radiator, as the leather would irreversibly harden and crack.
If you wear orthotic insoles and choose custom-made production, it is absolutely necessary to send them to us in advance. They will be precisely and functionally fitted directly into the footwear, ensuring the boots fit you like a glove and provide your feet with the necessary support.
