A Cut That Shapes the Figure
The Renaissance Corset (Stays)
The firm, strapless corset (historically known as stays) is designed to pull in and shape the torso into the iconic conical form typical of the 16th century. It is heavily boned to ensure structure and support. The front extends down to an elegant point at the waist, while the back features functional lacing, allowing you to tailor the corset to a perfect, custom fit. The upper edge is finished with a delicate, gold-toned decorative trim for a touch of luxury.
The Voluminous Petticoat
The long and full petticoat is designed to create volume and provide the proper shape for your overdress. Its lower half is adorned with three wide, densely gathered tiers or flounces. These not only add richness to the skirt but also create a beautiful, flowing movement as you walk—a true sign of nobility.
For Which Occasion Is the "Iris" Set Ideal?
This set is the indispensable foundation for any Renaissance or fantasy costume. You will find it perfect for many occasions:
- Renaissance Faires and historical markets: You will feel authentic, and your gowns will look flawless.
- LARP and fantasy events: Ideal for characters such as noblewomen, ladies-in-waiting, or wealthy merchants' wives.
- Theatrical productions and film shoots: Ensures a historically accurate look for actresses and extras.
- Historically-themed weddings: Creates a fairytale silhouette for the bride or wedding party members.
Underpinnings in the Renaissance
In the 16th century, undergarments were not seen, but they played an absolutely crucial role. A rigid set of stays or a corset shaped the body into the era's ideal of beauty—a slender, geometrically-shaped torso and a flattened bust. Beneath the outer skirt, several layers of petticoats were worn, which not only provided warmth and protected expensive outer fabrics from soiling but, most importantly, created the fashionable wide silhouette. The wealthier the woman, the more layers and volume she could afford.
A Fascinating Historical Fact: The Rustle of Wealth
Did you know that the wealth and social standing of a Renaissance lady could not only be seen but also heard? The rustle of multiple layers of fabric—the friction of the petticoat's flounces against the overskirt and brocade bodice—created a characteristic sound that announced the arrival of a noble lady. Moving silently, by contrast, was associated with poverty.

How to Care for Your Costume
To ensure this beautiful piece serves you for as long as possible, we recommend the following care:
- Washing: Due to the boning and trim on the corset, we recommend gentle hand washing in lukewarm water or professional dry cleaning. The petticoat can be machine washed on a delicate cycle (max 30°C).
- Drying: Never tumble dry! Allow the corset to air dry flat to prevent the boning from warping. Hang the petticoat to dry naturally.
- Ironing: Iron the petticoat on a cotton setting. Iron the corset with great care, avoiding direct contact between the iron and the boning channels or decorative trim.
