The historical model for this unique ensemble dates back to the 18th century, the era of the High Baroque and emerging Rococo in Western Europe. During this time, the silhouette of a noble lady could not exist without a solid foundation. The lace-up bodice (often called a corset), strongly reinforced with boning, served to firmly shape the torso, emphasise the décolletage, and visually narrow the waist. The underskirt, richly decorated with a cascade of ruffles, provided the necessary volume and magnificent bell shape to the outer layers of the garment.

This entire set serves as an undergarment beneath outer dresses (such as the highly popular open robes of the period). It ensures that the heavy outer fabrics drape correctly and hold their proper shape. The cotton provides excellent breathability even during all-day wear, while the details made of genuine cotton velvet and decorative lace give the underwear a touch of unadulterated luxury. The back of the bodice features classic lacing, which allows the garment to be perfectly adjusted to your measurements.

Care of the Historical Undergarments

To ensure this magnificent ensemble serves you for as long as possible and retains its original shape, it requires proper and gentle care. Due to the strong boning in the bodice, we strongly recommend having this part cleaned exclusively at a professional dry cleaner, or very carefully wiping it with a damp cloth. Machine washing would irreversibly destroy and deform the boning. The underskirt can be washed very gently by hand in lukewarm water using a mild detergent. Never tumble dry the garments; let them air dry flat. Never iron the velvet parts directly with a standard iron; we recommend only carefully steaming any creases with a vertical garment steamer from the reverse side. Recommended Accessories

We strongly advise you that the depicted floral overdress, the cloth mob cap on the head, and the model's historical footwear are not included in the delivery! To achieve a perfectly complete historical appearance, we recommend purchasing an authentic Baroque chemise, period stockings, and an elegant layered overdress (e.g. a mantua or a robe à l'anglaise) to accompany this underwear. Your aristocratic wardrobe will thus be absolutely complete and historically accurate.
