Historical Context and Garment Cut

This costume is inspired by Western European fashion of the first half of the 14th century. The year 1346 is famously associated with the Battle of Crécy, where Welsh longbowmen demonstrated their lethal efficiency. The long tunic is designed using the mi-parti (divided garment) principle. This medieval fashion phenomenon, where a garment was pieced together from two or more differently coloured fabrics, often denoted allegiance to a specific noble retinue, house, or guild. As product photograph mna_1054j (1).jpg demonstrates, an inseparable part of the set is the hood (Gugel). Its cowl is extended into a characteristic long tail (liripipe), and the lower hem is artistically cut into leaf-like shapes (dagging).

Material, Dressing, and Proper Care

The garment is manufactured from sturdy fustian (100% cotton). This material is an excellent alternative for historical costumes as it feels pleasant against the skin, absorbs sweat well, and withstands rougher treatment in the field. It is simply pulled on over the head. To give the tunic its proper shape, it must be gathered at the waist with a belt. The hood is draped loosely over the shoulders.

To preserve the colours and fabric structure, we recommend following these cleaning and care instructions (link in Czech). Wash the garment gently in a washing machine at 30 °C (86 °F), do not use bleach, and ideally air dry it on a line. Do not use a tumble dryer, as the cotton fibres could shrink. Ironing is permitted on a medium heat setting.

Simply fill out the measurement chart with your order (we require measurements 8a, 8c, 8d, 8e, 8q, 8r, and 8x). Upon request, the costume can also be made in other colours. Please review the fabric swatches and state your chosen colour in your order comments in this format: (1) swatch number, (2) colour letter, and (3) colour name. Should you choose a fabric with a different composition, we will consult the price with you in advance.

Safety and Recommended Use

This garment is ideal for historical festivals, LARP, or theatrical performances. Please note that this is purely civilian clothing, not armour. It will not protect you from strikes during contact fencing (HEMA, buhurt). Due to the cotton material, exercise extreme caution near open flames—there is a high risk of ignition and severe burns.
