The fashion style around 1850, falling into the famous Victorian era, was characterized by wide crinolines and richly decorated bodices. This dress corresponds to the garments proudly worn by ladies of the middle and upper social classes during afternoon teas or strolling along the promenade. Today, this costume is the perfect choice for historical reenactment of the American Civil War period (North vs. South), Victorian festivals, theatrical performances, or themed balls.

The ensemble consists of a separate bodice and skirt, which significantly makes dressing and subsequent maintenance easier. The bodice is decorated with wide white lace lining the small neckline and long sleeves, which are effectively puffed at the shoulders and finished with a lace cuff. The overall look is perfectly complemented by a stylish hat with a ribbon and a small reticule (drawstring bag) for essential trinkets such as a handkerchief or a mirror.

Material And Proper Care

The dress is made of 100% cotton, which is highly breathable, soft to the touch, and ensures high comfort even during warm summer festivals. The decorative satin sash and delicate lace add a touch of luxury to the garment. To ensure the costume stays beautiful for as long as possible and retains its vibrant colours, we highly recommend washing it exclusively by hand or in a washing machine on a very gentle cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F).

• Avoid using aggressive bleach and never put the dress in a tumble dryer.
• After washing, hang the garment on a hanger and let it air dry in a shaded area.
• You can iron the cotton parts on medium heat; for safety reasons, iron the satin and lace only inside out on the lowest setting.

Please note that the lace gloves and jewellery shown in the photograph are not included in the delivery. To achieve the maximum period effect of the wide skirt, we recommend purchasing a hoop skirt (crinoline) from our selection to go underneath.
