History and Origin: Specifics of Type XIV
This sword is a faithful replica corresponding to the Oakeshott typology as Type XIV. This type of weapon was highly popular in the 13th and 14th centuries. Its main feature is a broad blade base that tapers very sharply to an acute and strong point. The sword thus offered devastating cutting power while also allowing effective thrusting into the gaps of mail or early plate armour. An interesting aspect of this specific model is the 15th-century design hilt (often with a fishtail or disc pommel), making it a fascinating example of a weapon where an older, proven blade shape meets more modern handle ergonomics. This is an upgraded version from the popular SWM series. The blades are precision forged from in-house spring steel, while the heat treatment is entrusted to specialised local workshops to ensure the highest quality. To keep the price affordable, the grip is wrapped in durable synthetic leather.
Practical Use and Safety Warnings
The blade is sharp and fully functional. The manufacturer uses high-quality spring steel hardened to 49-53 HRC. The weapon is therefore ideal for test cutting or practising techniques without a partner. For HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) swords, a flexibility of 12-13 kgs is usually expected for longswords, but this arming sword has a very stiff blade with a flex strength of 16 kg (35.3 lbs). For this reason, and because of the sharp edge, we must strictly warn you:
- The weapon is absolutely not intended for contact fencing!
- Do not use it for man-to-man combat, stage fencing, or LARP, as there is a risk of fatal injury.

Proper Sword Maintenance
Mild steel and spring steel require regular care to prevent rusting. After each training session or handling, wipe the blade with a dry cloth and apply a thin layer of gun oil or preservation oil . Never touch the blade with bare hands, as sweat is acidic and causes rapid oxidation. Do not store the sword in a leather scabbard for long periods, as leather attracts and retains moisture. Keep the sword in a dry place at a constant room temperature.
