High Suede Leather Medieval Boots with Side Lacing

A Detailed Look

These tall boots reach just below the knee and are made from soft and supple suede leather, available in black or brown. Thanks to the soft material, the boot slouches and moves naturally with you, ensuring maximum comfort all day long. The most distinctive feature is the full-length side-lacing system, which allows you to achieve a perfect, custom fit around your calf. The toe features a characteristic design with visible, moccasin-style stitching. The overall look is completed by a flat yet durable modern sole, providing you with a confident step on any terrain.

How to Wear and Use

Before the first wear, we recommend treating the boots with a suede protector spray to increase their resistance to moisture and dirt. The side lacing makes it easy to adjust the boots to your exact leg shape. Simply loosen the leather cords, slide your foot in comfortably, and then tighten them as needed. Their lightweight construction makes them perfect for long days at events without causing fatigue.

Boots Through the Ages

Footwear as a Social Mirror

In the Middle Ages, footwear was not just practical protection but also an indicator of social status. While the nobility wore elaborately decorated shoes made from expensive materials, commoners, soldiers, and travellers needed footwear that was first and foremost functional and durable. Soft, high boots of a similar style offered protection from thorns, rocks, and the cold. Lacing ensured the boot stayed securely on the foot, even when traversing difficult terrain.

A Snippet from History

Most medieval leather footwear was made using the "turnshoe" technique. The shoe was stitched together inside-out and then turned right-side-out, which cleverly hid the seams. While this resulted in an elegant, seamless look, the soles were soft and wore out quickly. These boots, in contrast, use a modern, attached sole that is far more durable and practical for today's activities.

Caring for Your Boots

  • Regularly remove dust and dirt from the boots using a brush designed for suede.
  • Protect the boots from getting soaked. If they do get wet, allow them to air dry at room temperature, never near a direct heat source.
  • Use a suede protector spray to guard against moisture and stains.
  • Store them in a dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight.

Important Note: These boots do not offer ankle support and are therefore not suitable for stage combat or battle reenactment. Their modern sole may not be accepted at events with strict requirements for historical authenticity.
