Appearance and Craftsmanship

This heraldic badge depicts a stylized single-headed eagle with outspread wings and ornately detailed talons. Its posture is dynamic and proud, following the strict traditions of medieval iconography. We offer this fitting in two finishes, as seen in the photographs:

• Polished Bronze: A golden, radiant surface ideal for wealthy burghers or high nobility in their full glory.
• Antique Bronze (Patinated): A darker, oxidized finish that gives the item the look of an archaeological find or a long-worn artifact.

On the reverse side, there is a sturdy integrated stud (rivet) used for secure and permanent attachment to your equipment.

How to Use and Install

This eagle is designed for permanent mounting on leather or textile accessories. We recommend the following procedure:

• On Leather (Belts, Bags): Use a hole punch to create a small hole (approx. 2.5–3 mm / 0.1"). Insert the stud through the hole. From the inside, we suggest placing a small washer (not included) and carefully peening (flattening) the protruding stud with a hammer.
• On Fabric (Hats, Doublets): If the fabric is thick enough (e.g., wool cloth), you can push the stud through the weave and secure it similarly to leather, or bend the stud if the material thickness allows (be careful of metal fatigue).

Historical Context and Symbolism

The eagle was one of the most important heraldic animals between the 13th and 15th centuries. Known as the "Queen of the Skies," it symbolized the sun, supreme divine power, and imperial authority. The single-headed eagle was the central emblem of the Holy Roman Empire. It was worn by those wishing to express loyalty to the Emperor or by those belonging to significant noble houses under imperial jurisdiction.

Interestingly, while the single-headed eagle was the symbol of kings and emperors in earlier periods, the double-headed eagle only became the fixed symbol of the imperial rank in the 15th century under Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg. This replica is therefore perfect for the High Middle Ages period.

Care and Maintenance

Bronze is a noble metal that naturally oxidizes over time, developing a darker patina. If you want your eagle to shine like new, you can occasionally polish it with a soft cloth and metal polishing paste. If you prefer the historical "used" look, simply let the patina develop. Avoid contact with aggressive chemicals. Never attempt to bend the stud back and forth repeatedly, as this could cause it to snap due to material fatigue.

Safety Warning

Due to the sharp stud on the back and the small dimensions, keep this product out of reach of children. Use caution during installation (riveting) to avoid injury to your fingers or damage to the front of the fitting. We recommend padding the face of the badge with a piece of soft leather during the riveting process.
