Medieval Bronze Floral Mount, Gothic Style

Floral Motifs and Installation Guide

Originals of similar small mounts date back to the High and Late Gothic periods (13th to 15th centuries). During this time, the nobility and wealthy townsfolk loved to decorate their clothing, belts, and leather accessories with small metal applications featuring floral motifs. In medieval art, the flower symbolised life and beauty, and it very often carried a deeper heraldic or religious significance.

The installation of this decorative cast bronze piece is very easy. The product is equipped with two attaching pins on the back. Simply pre-punch two small holes in the leather or sturdy fabric (for example, using the sharp point of an awl), push the pins through from the front, and carefully bend them inwards or outwards on the back using pliers. For maximum durability and to protect your underlying clothing from scratching, we recommend covering the bent pins on the back with a thin layer of glued-on leather or linen.

Care and Safety Guidelines

Bronze is a very durable and resistant material, but it naturally develops a darker patina over time due to exposure to air and moisture. If you wish to maintain its original radiant shine, we recommend occasionally polishing it gently with a dry cotton cloth and a special cleaner for non-ferrous metals. Proceed carefully during the installation itself. Bend the pins smoothly and avoid repeatedly bending them back and forth to prevent material fatigue and subsequent snapping off.

Recommended Accessories

With these small decorative mounts, we highly recommend purchasing a high-quality saddler's awl for hole-punching, sturdy cowhide leather for your crafting, and a period-accurate buckle with a brass strap-end from the 14th or 15th century. This way, your newly crafted belt or medieval pouch will gain a perfect and cohesive historical look.
