Modular Winged LARP Spear Dreki Megin 180 / 210 / 240 cm

Appearance and Inspiration

This LARP spear impresses at first glance with its realistic craftsmanship. The spearhead, made from durable PUR foam, has a metallic grey appearance and characteristic "wings" on the sides of the blade. This design is based on historical winged spears (German: Flügellanze), used particularly in the early and high Middle Ages. The wings served to prevent the tip from penetrating too deeply into the target, making it easier to withdraw the weapon. The shaft has a dark brown colour with a wood grain texture, lending the weapon an authentic look. The lower section is finished with a metallic-looking butt cap, which acts as a counterweight for better balance.

Modular System – Assemble Your Spear Your Way

The base is a 50 cm long head (D703), which screws onto the upper shaft section. To this, you attach the upper shaft section (D700-U90), 92 cm long (including a 2 cm screw section), and the lower shaft section, which you choose based on the desired total length:

  • 180 cm Variant (D703-180):
    1. Includes: 1x 50cm head, 1x 90cm upper pole, 1x 40cm lower pole (total length 45 cm inc. screw section)
    2. Total assembled length: 180 cm
    3. Approximate weight: 1125 g
  • 210 cm Variant (D703-210):
    1. Includes: 1x 50cm head, 1x 90cm upper pole, 1x 70cm lower pole (total length 75 cm inc. screw section)
    2. Total assembled length: 210 cm
    3. Approximate weight: 1400 g
  • 240 cm Variant (D703-240):
    1. Includes: 1x 50cm head, 1x 90cm upper pole, 1x 100cm lower pole (total length 105 cm inc. screw section)
    2. Total assembled length: 240 cm
    3. Approximate weight: 1630 g

Individual parts (head, upper and lower pole sections) can also be purchased separately, so you can get one set of poles and multiple different heads (e.g., a halberd, another spear) and easily swap them!

Construction, Safety, and Materials

  • Head: Made from high-quality and durable polyurethane (PUR) foam. Contains a thinner fibreglass core and a security flex tip, which minimises impact pain and enhances safety. Length 50 cm, weight 260 g.
  • Upper Pole Section: PUR foam surface, core made from a hollow carbon fibre rod for low weight and strength. Length 92 cm, handle circumference 11 cm, weight 470 g.
  • Lower Pole Sections: PUR foam surface, core made from a hollow fibreglass rod with a tapered internal structure for optimal balance and durability. Handle circumference 11 cm. Each lower section includes an integrated counterweight (150 g, 250 g, or 350 g depending on length) for excellent handling.
  • Connections: The individual parts are joined using high-quality and sturdy 304 stainless steel screws.

Advantages of This Spear:

  • Versatility: Easily change the length or head type according to the situation.
  • Portability: The disassembled spear is easy to transport and store – an end to the problems of transporting long polearms.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Purchase multiple heads and use them with one set of poles.
  • Durability: Quality materials and strong connections ensure a long lifespan.
  • Safety: Foam head with a flexible tip and well-thought-out balance.
  • Comfort: Good balance and a pleasant grip (11 cm circumference) for comfortable handling.

Interesting Fact from the World of LARP

Polearms like spears or halberds are very popular in LARP, especially for formation fighting or for characters who want to take advantage of longer reach. However, their transport and storage can often be problematic. Modular systems like this one elegantly solve this issue, allowing players to easily adapt their weaponry to the conditions of a specific game.

How and Where Can You Use This Spear?

This modular spear is ideal for a wide range of characters and situations:

  • Infantry and Guards: Perfect for warriors in formation, city guards, or patrols.
  • Fantasy and Historical LARPs: Its design fits well into many different game worlds.
  • Players Preferring Reach: Utilise the longer variants to keep enemies at bay.
  • Characters with Multiple Roles: You'll appreciate the ability to change length if your character alternates between fighting in open terrain and confined spaces.

Principles of LARP Replica Care

  • Storage: Store the weapon horizontally or hanging so it doesn't deform. Avoid leaning it on its tip or head for extended periods.
  • Cleaning: After use, wipe the weapon with a damp cloth to remove dirt. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents.
  • Maintenance: Regularly check the tightness of the screw connections. To protect the foam parts and maintain their flexibility, you can use silicone oil spray designed for LARP weapons.
  • Temperature and Humidity: Do not expose the weapon to extreme temperatures (direct sunlight, frost) or prolonged humidity.

Principles of Safe Use

  • Check Before Use: Always check the weapon's condition, especially the integrity of the head, tip, and the tightness of connections. Do not use a damaged weapon.
  • Use Appropriate Force: LARP weapons are designed for safe contact, but it's still necessary to fight with consideration and controlled force.
  • Aim for Permitted Zones: Always respect the rules of the specific LARP event regarding hit zones (usually torso and limbs). Do not aim for the head, neck, or groin.
  • Do Not Thrust Directly: Even though the spear has a safe tip, avoid direct and forceful thrusts. Use cutting or controlled stabbing techniques instead.
  • Respect Others: Remember that LARP is a game. Be considerate of other players and adhere to the rules of fair play.

With this Dreki Megin modular winged spear, you get a reliable, safe, and versatile weapon that will excellently accompany you on your LARP adventures!
