Iron Sempach – Modular Swiss Halberd for LARP Combat

Safety, Balance, and Engineering

The head of the Sempach is crafted from durable polyurethane and features a high-quality security flex tip to ensure safer thrusts by reducing impact energy. The internal structure uses a specialised fiberglass core—thinner in the head for flexibility and safety, and thicker with a tapered design in the main pole for exceptional balance and handling. Every connection is secured with heavy-duty 304 stainless steel screws, providing a rock-solid feel that rivals traditional one-piece wooden handles while maintaining modern safety standards.

Configurations and Specifications

The Swiss Halberd in History: The Knight-Killer

The Swiss Halberd was the weapon that redefined medieval warfare. In the hands of disciplined Swiss mercenaries during the 14th and 15th centuries, it became a symbol of infantry dominance. It combined the thrust of a spear, the cleaving power of an axe, and a hook on the back designed to pull knights from their mounts. At the Battle of Sempach (1386), these weapons were used to devastating effect against Austrian heavy cavalry, proving that a well-equipped infantryman could overcome the most expensive plate armour of the age.

Maintenance and Safety Guidelines

To keep your Iron Sempach in fighting shape for years to come, follow these guidelines:

  • Wipe the polyurethane head with a damp cloth after each event to remove dirt and dust.
  • Ensure the stainless steel threads remain clean. A drop of silicone oil on the threads can ensure smooth assembly and disassembly.
  • Never store the halberd resting on its tip, as this can cause the foam to permanently deform. Store it flat or disassembled.
  • Avoid exposing the weapon to extreme heat (e.g., inside a car on a summer day), as this can weaken the material.
  • This product is designed exclusively for LARP and simulated combat. Do not strike hard objects like trees or stone walls, as this may fracture the internal fiberglass core.

Recommended Accessories

Expand your modular system by swapping the head with the Ying Spear (SKU: D702) or the Soulrend Voulge (SKU: D705). For a complete Swiss mercenary kit, we recommend pairing this halberd with a heavy gambeson and a kettle hat or sallet helmet from our collection.
