Raider Medieval Tunic, Viking Style, 100% Cotton
A Costume Essential for Any Occasion
Whether you're heading to a LARP event, a historical festival, a medieval market, or a re-enactment or SCA battle, this medieval tunic is always a superb choice. Its versatility allows you to portray a wide range of characters – from a valiant Viking warrior or a Norman knight to a humble medieval craftsman. For a looser, more casual fit, we recommend choosing one or two sizes larger than you normally wear. For a more historically accurate look, where the garment fits closer to the body with slightly shorter sleeves for ease of movement in combat or work, select your usual size.
The Tunic Through the Ages
The tunic, known in Old Norse as the "kyrtill", was the absolute cornerstone of the male wardrobe throughout the Early and High Middle Ages. This type of garment was worn by men across all social classes, from peasants and common soldiers to jarls and kings. The status and wealth of the owner were reflected in the material, colours, and decoration. While the poorer had to make do with undyed linen or coarse wool, the nobility enjoyed tunics made from fine fabrics, dyed with expensive pigments and adorned with intricate embroidery on the collar, cuffs, and hem.
Did You Know...?
In the Viking Age, colours were not just a matter of fashion but primarily a symbol of status and wealth. For example, a rich red, derived from the root of the madder plant, was quite costly, and its wearer was clearly signalling their social standing. Even rarer was the blue colour from the woad plant, which only the wealthiest and most powerful leaders could afford.
Care for Your New Garment
To ensure your tunic serves you for as long as possible and maintains its appearance, we recommend following these instructions. Wash the tunic before its first use. Machine wash it on a gentle cycle, ideally with similar colours, at a maximum temperature of 40°C. You can tumble dry it on a low heat, but for a longer lifespan of the fabric, air drying is recommended. It can be ironed on a low setting. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemical detergents.
