Historical Context and Cut Adaptation

Although similar garments are often labelled "Viking shirts" in popular culture and films, from a historian's perspective, this is a pure fantasy interpretation. Real Norsemen in the Early Middle Ages (8th – 11th century) wore much simpler tunics (known as kyrtill) with narrow, shaped sleeves and a neckline without front lacing. Huge gathered sleeves and chest lacing are, in fact, elements that appear in European fashion much later, specifically with the Landsknechts in the 16th century (Renaissance). However, combining these elements has created a visually incredibly attractive piece of clothing that perfectly serves the needs of modern LARP, cosplay, and fantasy festivals, where visual impact and character persona triumph over strict historical accuracy (living history).

Material Composition

Unique to this garment is the clever combination of two different natural materials that ensure both functionality and a great look:

• Bodice (100% Cotton - Fustian): A strong and densely woven fabric with a lightly brushed face side. It holds its shape excellently, is resistant to abrasion, and provides pleasant thermal comfort.
• Puffed Sleeves (70% Linen, 30% Cotton): A lightweight and breathable blended fabric with a woven striped pattern. Linen wicks away sweat brilliantly, while the cotton blend softens the fabric. The sleeves are finished with a firm, snug cuff made of fustian.

Technical Parameters

Care and Maintenance Instructions

To ensure your tunic lasts a long time in perfect condition and the colours remain vibrant, proper care is essential. Machine washing is recommended on a gentle cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F). Use only mild detergents without bleach. Under no circumstances should you use a tumble dryer, to prevent the cotton and linen fibres from shrinking. Do not spin the garment at high speeds. Dry it hanging freely on a coat hanger in a well-ventilated room. Ironing is possible from the reverse (inside) on a medium setting.

Cleaning and care of costumes

Safety Warnings

Since the tunic is sewn from purely natural materials and features a large volume of fabric on the sleeves, exercise immense caution near open flames (campfires, torches). There is a risk of easy ignition. For safety reasons, remember that this is a civil/costume garment. It provides absolutely no protection against weapons during contact historical fencing or combat sports (HEMA, buhurt).

Please note that the leather belt, trousers (leggings), and modern footwear shown in the photographs are not included in the delivery.
