Historical Context and Fantasy Design

From the perspective of military history, the so-called double-bitted axe (known more from antiquity as the labrys) did not appear in the Viking armoury—Norse warriors preferred asymmetrical bearded axes or broad Dane axes, which were lighter and conserved precious steel. Construction and Materials

The impressive, 33 cm (13 in) wide axe head is precisely forged from high-quality carbon steel, its surface darkened to achieve an authentic, battle-worn appearance. The blades feature a factory edge thickness of approximately 1 mm (0.04 in). This makes the weapon relatively safe to carry; however, the material allows for complete honing with a sharpening stone if you desire a fully functional cutting edge. The 91 cm (35.8 in) haft provides ample leverage for a two-handed grip. It is crafted from resilient hardwood (supplied in either ash or acacia) and is reinforced and wrapped with crisscrossed leather cords and leather straps for maximum grip security.

Safety and Proper Maintenance

Because the head is made of real carbon steel, it requires regular care; otherwise, it is susceptible to atmospheric corrosion. After every event or exposure to moisture, wipe the metal thoroughly dry and treat it with a light coat of preservative or gun oil. We recommend occasionally rubbing the wooden haft with linseed oil to prevent it from drying out. Keep the leather wrap in good condition using a leather balsam containing beeswax.

Important Safety Warning: Even though it is made of massive forged steel, the weapon is intended primarily as a decorative item, a cosplay prop, for photoshoots, or as a character accessory for LARP. Under no circumstances should you use this weapon for full-contact historical fencing (HMB, Buhurt) or for chopping into hard targets (trees, logs)! The steel axe head is also strictly prohibited for use in LARP combat (where only foam-padded weapons are permitted); it may only serve as a non-combat character prop. Always exercise extreme caution during handling and practice swings, ensuring you maintain a safe distance from others.
