Black Round Leather Cord for Historical Crafting and LARP
Historical Use and Crafting Tradition
Leather cords, thongs, and laces have accompanied mankind since time immemorial. Since prehistoric times, they were used to bind stone blades to wooden hafts. In the Middle Ages and early modern period, they became an absolutely indispensable part of daily life. They were used for lacing everyday garments, tying leather pouches and bags, and above all as arming points. These served for the secure and flexible attachment of plate armour components to a gambeson or maille. This simple yet ingenious method of joining ensured warriors the necessary mobility in combat.
Practical Application Today
Today, you will utilise this leather string to the fullest when making, modifying, and repairing your LARP equipment or historical costumes. It is ideal for lacing leather doublets, stringing amulets around your neck, small leathercraft projects, or stylishly wrapping weapon hilts, where the leather guarantees a firm and non-slip grip. Thanks to its round profile, the cord is excellent to work with, threads easily through holes, and holds knots exceptionally well and securely.
Leather Care
To maintain the strength, flexibility, and rich colour of the leather, we recommend treating it occasionally with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. Never expose the leather to an open flame and do not dry it on a radiator. If you get caught in the rain at a festival or during a historical campaign, let the cord (or the garment it is attached to) dry naturally at room temperature. This will prevent it from hardening, becoming brittle, and subsequently cracking.
Safety Precautions
Even though natural leather is a very strong and resilient material, always remember that this is not a modern climbing or rescue rope. Never use this cord to belay people, suspend heavy loads over individuals, or for any other purpose where its snapping could cause injury or serious damage.
