Axe frogs and sheaths were an absolutely common and necessary part of equipment from antiquity right through to the modern era. The axe was not merely a weapon but, above all, a universal working tool. This holster is designed so that the blade rests safely in a rigid leather bed with riveted and stitched edges. You simply thread the sheath onto your belt using the wide rear loop. The axe is inserted from the top and secured by pulling the leather flap over the haft and snapping it onto the solid brass saddler's button (also known as a Sam Browne stud).

Please note that for the sheath to fulfil its securing function perfectly, it is standardly custom-made to the exact dimensions of the throwing axe ordered alongside it. If you intend to purchase the sheath for an axe you already own at home, it is absolutely necessary to send it to our workshop first. This is the only way to guarantee that the weapon will sit firmly and safely in the sheath and will not fall out during running or sharp movements.

Leather Care and Safety Warnings

The sheath is manufactured from thick, high-quality natural leather. Minor variations in colour and surface texture are its natural characteristics, making each crafted piece a minor original. To maintain the long lifespan, water resistance, and flexibility of the material, we recommend regularly treating the leather with beeswax or a high-quality leather balsam. If the sheath gets soaked at an event, let it dry naturally at room temperature. Never dry the leather near an open fire or placed on a radiator – it could irreversibly shrink, harden, and crack. Regarding safety, always ensure that the axe is properly secured in the sheath with the flap. To prevent injury, never insert an axe with a damaged, splintered, or loose haft into the holster.
