The armour is hand-woven in the traditional 4-in-1 pattern from round butted rings with a 10 mm inner diameter. They are made from 16-gauge (approx. 1.6 mm) mild steel wire. The entire shirt has a blackened finish, giving it a rugged, weathered look while also providing a basic layer of protection against corrosion.
