Functional Hungarian Cavalry Saber Honor with Engraved High Carbon Blade
Historical Context and Unique Design
Due to its geographical location, Hungary has always been a crossroads where the military and cultural influences of the East and West collided. This phenomenon is directly reflected in the construction of Hungarian weaponry. The Hungarian saber was primarily conceived as a cutting and thrusting weapon designed for horseback combat, although its effectiveness on foot was equally feared. A prominent feature of this blade is the so-called yelman – a noticeable widening of the blade near the tip. This design shifts the point of balance further forward, granting the cut immense kinetic energy and penetrating power, which was crucial when fighting against period armor.
Precision Craftsmanship and Materials
The blade is forged from premium 1055 high carbon steel, which is heat-treated to retain a tough spring temper while holding a sharp edge. The long and massive crossguard is decorated with a subtle floral scroll motif and a central brass-colored rosette. Thanks to its width, it provides exceptional protection for the hand and forearm. With this design, a skilled swordsman can deflect and block the vast majority of attacks aimed at their armed hand with minimal movement of the wrist. The grip is wrapped in high-quality black leather and contoured for a firm, secure hold, terminating in an elegant stepped metal pommel. The saber is supplied in a robust wooden scabbard covered in black leather. The scabbard is fitted with elaborate fluted and pierced metal fittings that provide a striking contrast to the leather, complete with two suspension rings for belt attachment.

Important Safety Warning
This saber is supplied with a sharp blade. For safety reasons, it is strictly not intended for contact fencing (HEMA, LARP, stage combat) or human-to-human sparring. Careless handling carries a risk of severe or fatal injury! The weapon is fully functional for solo drills, cutting tests (e.g., on tatami mats), and naturally serves as a magnificent collector's piece. The use of this weapon is entirely at your own risk and responsibility.
Maintenance and Recommended Accessories
Because the blade is made of high carbon steel, it will succumb to rust without proper care. After every use, even if only touched with bare hands, the blade must be cleaned and coated with a thin layer of gun oil. We recommend occasionally treating the leather on the scabbard and handle with a beeswax-based leather balm. This will ensure that the weapon serves you well for decades and always looks like new. We highly recommend purchasing high-quality maintenance oil and a cleaning kit alongside this saber. For comfortable carrying, a period-accurate leather belt frog is perfect, and for indoor display, an elegant wooden sword stand makes a great addition.
