Dark Brown Gothic Leather Tall Boots with Scalloped Cuff
Practical Use and Historical Context
These tall boots are based on European fashion from the 14th and 15th centuries, the period of the High and Late Gothic. Typical for this era was footwear with an elongated toe, the so-called poulaines (or crakows). While the high nobility wore extremely long toes, this model features a more practical, shorter toe so it will not restrict you when walking, running, or fencing. A specific fashion element here is the wide folded cuff finished with decorative scalloping. Back lacing fulfilled an important function in the Middle Ages – it allowed the boot to be pulled tightly around the leg, creating the elegant, narrow silhouette so popular in the fashion of the time.
Material and Construction
The boots are honestly crafted from high-quality, thick cowhide leather in a dark brown shade. The individual leather parts are joined by strong and visually distinct stitching, which gives the entire product a robust appearance. On the back of the calf, there is leather lacing pulled through reinforced holes, guaranteeing that the boot will not slip down during movement. The construction of the smooth leather sole is designed to withstand the rigours of period encampments, castle courtyards, and grassy fields.

Sizes and Custom Tailoring
These historical boots are readily available in standard European (EU) sizes. If you select the custom-made option from our range, the footwear will be manufactured exactly according to your specified body measurements. We draw your attention to an important rule: if you normally wear orthopaedic insoles and wish to use them in these boots as well, it is absolutely essential to physically send them to us before production begins. The shoemaker will permanently and precisely fit them into the boots to ensure that the footwear fits you perfectly and your gait remains healthy.
Leather Footwear Care
From the workshop, the product is treated with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. The balm nourishes the leather, softens it, and provides basic waterproofing. It also gives the leather a richer and darker shade. To maintain a long lifespan, clean the boots of mud with a damp cloth after every event. After drying naturally, apply another layer of balm, conditioner, or neatsfoot oil. You can also safely use classic brown shoe polish, which perfectly masks scuffs on the toes and unifies the colour.
Safety and Precautions
For safety reasons, please remember that the smooth historical sole can be very treacherously slippery on wet grass, in mud, on wet stones, as well as on modern tiles and linoleum. Exercise heightened caution when walking in such conditions. It is strictly forbidden to dry the footwear near an open fire, on hot stoves, or directly on a central heating radiator. Extreme heat will destroy the structure of the natural leather, causing it to irreversibly harden and crack.
