Viking Horn Tankard with Wooden Base, 800ml, with Leather Holder
Authentic Design, Modern Craftsmanship
This tankard combines the rugged look of the Viking age with modern functionality. It is made from 100% ethically sourced cattle horn, polished to a smooth finish that highlights the natural shades ranging from black to brown and beige. The solid wooden base, set into the horn and secured with a (as seen in the photos) brass-coloured rim, gives the tankard the stability that traditional drinking horns lack. The integrated handle is comfortable and provides a firm grip.
Ready for Your Favourite Drinks
You don't have to worry about the taste of your drink or any leaks. The entire interior of the tankard is carefully sealed with a resin certified for food contact. This makes it ideal for serving cold and lukewarm drinks such as beer, mead, wine, or cider. Enjoy your beverage in style and without a worry.
The Complete Warrior's Set
With this tankard, you also get two practical accessories in the package. The main one is a leather belt holder (or "frog") with a brass buckle. This allows you to conveniently hang the tankard from your belt when you're not using it, keeping your hands free for battle or feasting. Everything is also packed in a Mythrojan cloth bag with a drawstring, which is ideal for transport or as a gift-wrap.

The History of Drinking Horns
Drinking from horns is an ancient tradition that stretches back thousands of years and was common in many cultures, from the Greeks to the Celts. However, it is most famously associated with the Vikings and Germanic tribes, for whom the drinking horn was not just a vessel but also a status symbol and a part of rituals and ceremonial toasts in the great mead halls. This tankard represents a later evolution, combining the natural material of the horn with the practicality of a stable base, allowing it to be comfortably set on a table without spilling the drink.
How to Care for Your Horn Tankard
As this is a natural product, it requires special care to ensure it lasts a long time:
- Before the first use, wash the tankard with lukewarm water and mild soap.
- Always hand-wash only. Never put the tankard in a dishwasher! The high heat and chemicals would damage it irreparably.
- Use it only for cold or lukewarm drinks. Never pour hot liquids into it! This could cause the horn to crack or damage the resin.
- It is not suitable for drinks with an alcohol content above 20% or for strongly acidic beverages (e.g., juice).
- Do not leave drinks standing in the tankard for an unnecessarily long time (e.g., overnight).
- After each use, wash it and dry it thoroughly. For a longer life, you can occasionally coat it inside and out with beeswax (after washing and drying).
- Remember that horn is a natural material that can change over time and may develop minor cracks.
