18th Century European Court Sword with Scabbard

This civilian weapon developed during the Baroque period became known as the court sword, or gallantry sword. It gradually replaced the rapier from the middle of the 17th century, since there was a need for lighter and less bulky weapons than the rapier. This is due to the increased population growth and the associated lack of space during this period.

The sword sheath is made of leather-wrapped wood, with brass fittings and a hook for attaching the sword sheath to a belt.
