The Armoured Rider in Detail

The figurine is made of high-quality polyresin and hand-painted with an emphasis on realism. The black horse is captured mid-leap, covered by a black caparison with distinct white crosses. The rider is dressed in chainmail (hauberk) and a black surcoat. On his head, he wears a massive Great Helm (bucket helm) with gold fittings, typical of the 13th century. In his right hand, he wields a drawn sword, and in his left, he holds a shield with the order's crest. The base is modelled as rocky terrain with tufts of grass, adding vitality to the whole scene.

Historical Insight: Who is the Black Knight?

Although this model is often referred to as a Teutonic Knight, historically, the Teutonic Knights wore white mantles with a black cross. Black attire with a white cross was, on the contrary, typical for the Order of Hospitallers (Knights of St. John) in their early period and for order sergeants. However, in popular culture and legends, the "Black Knight" often symbolizes a mysterious, elite warrior or a member of a specific guard. The heavy cavalry represented by the statue was the decisive force of the Crusades. The charge of the wedge formation of these riders could shatter any enemy infantry.

Caring for the Statue

To ensure this dark rider brings you joy for as long as possible, follow a few rules:

• Handling: Polyresin is a hard but brittle material. The most fragile parts are the sword and the horse's legs. Place the statue in a stable spot where there is no risk of it falling onto a hard floor.
• Cleaning: Remove dust with a fine dry brush or duster. Do not use water or chemical cleaners, which could damage the hand-painting and patina.
• Placement: The statue is intended for indoor use. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight could cause the rich black colour to fade.
