Striking a solid object could cause the blade to loosen or snap, potentially leading to serious injury to yourself or bystanders. Essential Care for Carbon Steel
Because the blades are made from carbon steel (it is not maintenance-free stainless steel), they are susceptible to rust. To keep your swords looking beautiful and shiny, they require regular care. Never touch the blades with your bare hands, as human sweat is highly corrosive. After drawing a sword from its scabbard, wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth and apply a light coat of suitable oil (we recommend traditional Choji clove oil or a high-quality gun oil). The wooden lacquered scabbards only need an occasional light dusting with a microfibre cloth.
