Wooden Viking Round Shield with Iron Boss

The large Viking shield we offer here is suitable for light combat reenactment, stage fighting or sparring. This battle-ready round shield is made of 3 layers of MDF wood (medium-density fibreboard) and covered on the front with sturdy, natural-coloured canvas. The fabric is glued onto the wood and has been left blank to allow you to customize the shield with your own colours or designs, should you so desire. With a bit of practical know-how and artistry, you can thus turn the shield blank into an authentic-looking Viking Age shield. More information...

Wooden Viking Round Shield with Iron Boss, unpainted Shield Blank with Canvas Overlay

The shield's edge is clad with rawhide. Thought to be more impact resistant and durable than tanned leather, rawhide absorbs blows significantly better and will thus extend the life of the shield. The generously sized shield boss leaves ample space to accommodate even stout Viking hands and is tightly held in place with four nails.

The wooden shield is fitted with three pinewood reinforcement slats nailed on the back. The central one also officiates as a handle and is rounded in its middle section for a comfortable grip.

  • Thickness: approx. 1.6cm
  • Shield boss: overall Ø approx. 20cm, bulge Ø approx. 16cm, bulge height approx. 6cm
  • Weight: approx. 4.3 kg
