Miniature Crusader Sword, Letter Opener from Toledo

A Sword in the Sign of the Cross

This miniature replica is inspired by classic swords from the High Middle Ages and is full of symbolic details.

  • The Blade: The strong and durable blade is made of high-quality 440 stainless steel, hardened to 47-51 HRC. It is adorned with a detailed etching of a kneeling knight in prayer, set within a Gothic arch.
  • The Hilt: The entire hilt is cast from metal and has an antique silver or pewter finish. Its surface is covered with a texture resembling a rope or woven pattern. The grip is interrupted in the middle by a band with a cross motif. The most striking feature is the large, pierced openwork wheel pommel, whose design forms four interconnected circles, reminiscent of a quatrefoil symbol.

Open Your Mail with the Faith of a Knight

This sword is much more than just a tool. It is a symbol of courage, faith, and determination. Use it as a stylish letter opener and add a touch of nobility to your daily work. It is also an ideal gift for any lover of the Middle Ages, the Crusades, and chivalric orders like the Templars or Hospitallers. For a perfect presentation, we recommend placing it on one of our stands.

"God Wills It!" - The Story of the First Crusade

On November 27, 1095, at the Council of Clermont in France, Pope Urban II delivered a fiery speech. He called upon Christian knights to cease their mutual disputes and set out to liberate the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem from Muslim hands. His call, which he concluded with the famous cry "Deus vult!" (God wills it!), ignited a flame that spread throughout Europe. Thousands of men, women, and children embarked on the arduous journey to the Holy Land. They adopted the red cross as their symbol, from which they got their name – Crusaders. Thus began a period of nearly 200 years of holy wars.

Typological Classification

With its shape – a straight blade tapering to a point, a simple straight guard, and a large wheel pommel – this sword perfectly matches the image of a knightly sword from the era of the first Crusades. According to the Oakeshott typology, it can be classified as a Type XII, which was very widespread from the 11th to the 13th centuries.

Care and Safe Use

The stainless steel blade is virtually maintenance-free. The nickel-plated hilt should be kept dry and clean and occasionally polished with a soft cloth.

Important Notice: This is a decorative replica and a letter opener, not a weapon. Although it has a sharp point, it is not intended for combat, cutting, or any other practical use other than opening mail. Handle it responsibly and keep it out of the reach of children.
