Unlike open torches, lanterns were a safer and more practical choice for navigating crowded medieval cities and military camps. This replica is constructed from sturdy sheet iron and finished with a black protective paint, giving it a rustic look while offering resistance against rust. The hinged door is secured with a simple, historically accurate latch mechanism, allowing easy access to light the candle while ensuring it stays closed during movement.
