This Roman lantern is based upon historical originals from around the 1st to 3rd centuries AD, some of which found in Pompeii, parts of England and what is now known as Libya. This later type of lamp primarily used olive oil as its fuel source and was predominantly manufactured in Italy. However, the style was sometimes copied by artisans across Britain and other parts of the world.
