French Flintlock Pistol Paris 1781: Brass Replica

Faithful Replica with Functional Mechanism

Although this is a decorative item incapable of firing, its mechanism is fully movable and faithfully simulates the function of a historical flintlock.

  • Cock the Hammer: You can pull the firing mechanism back into the cocked position.
  • Close the Frizzen: The frizzen (the metal plate covering the pan) is movable.
  • Pull the Trigger: Upon pulling the trigger, the hammer strikes, the frizzen flips open, and the mechanism clicks.

This interaction adds authenticity to the replica, which you will appreciate during photography, video filming, or LARP. The barrel is blocked, and the weapon is made of safe materials, so it does not require registration.

Evolution of ranged weapons: from bamboo sticks to revolver

Materials and Decoration

The pistol is manufactured by the Spanish company Denix, combining modern materials with a historical appearance.

  • Metal Parts: Made of a zinc and aluminium alloy (Zamak). The barrel and trigger guard have a finish resembling old brass, decorated with fine engravings featuring floral motifs. The lock plate has a steel patina and bears rich relief work.
  • Handle: Made of durable plastic that imitates dark wood with a reddish tint (mahogany). Unlike real wood, this material is more resistant to humidity changes and cracking while looking very credible visually.

Care for Your Weapon

This replica is almost maintenance-free, but a few principles will help you keep it in shape:

  • Avoid dropping it on hard surfaces (concrete, tiles). The Zamak alloy is heavy but more brittle than steel.
  • Do not dry fire the mechanism unnecessarily often to avoid wearing out the spring and impact surfaces.
  • Use a dry cloth for cleaning. Water or aggressive chemicals could damage the brass patina.
  • You can occasionally lubricate the moving parts of the lock with silicone oil.
