Flintlock Pistol London 1760: Replica with Faux Ivory Handle

Detailed Craftsmanship and "London" Style

At first glance, the rich ornamentation will catch your eye. The barrel and fittings are made of metal (Zamak alloy) and feature a finish resembling tarnished brass, which was very popular in the 18th century for its resistance to corrosion at sea.

  • Markings: The barrel spine bears the distinct inscription "London", and the lock features the year "1760", anchoring the replica firmly in the early reign of King George III.
  • Handle: Made of durable polymer that faithfully mimics the texture and colour of ivory. It is decorated with fine checkering and raised reliefs, ensuring not only a beautiful appearance but also a firm grip.
  • Lock: The lock plate is adorned with fine engravings featuring floral motifs that contrast with the darker patina of the metal.

Functional Flintlock Mechanism

Unlike later percussion weapons, this pistol utilizes a classic flintlock mechanism. This means it features a movable frizzen (steel) that covers the priming pan. The mechanism is fully movable:

  1. You can cock the hammer (which would hold the flint in a real weapon).
  2. Close the frizzen over the pan.
  3. Upon pulling the trigger, the hammer strikes the frizzen, which flips open, and the mechanism clicks.

Note: This is a non-firing decoration. The pistol does not have a clear bore and cannot be fired.

Replica Care

To keep this "Londoner" looking beautiful for a long time:

  • Beware of Drops: The zinc and aluminium alloy is heavy and feels authentic, but an impact on a hard floor could snap off fragile parts like the trigger guard or hammer.
  • Cleaning: Use only a dry cloth. Water or chemical cleaners could damage the patina.
  • Mechanism: Avoid excessive dry firing, which puts unnecessary stress on the lock components. Occasionally, you can apply a drop of silicone oil to the mechanism.
