Jackson's Bowie Hunting Knife – Wild West Classic with Pakkawood Handle

Design and Functionality in One

The knife is constructed in the classic Bowie style made famous in the 19th century. The clip-point blade is made of 440A stainless steel. This steel is ideal for outdoor use as it resists corrosion excellently and is very easy to sharpen even in field conditions. On the blade, you will find a distinct fuller (blood groove), which reduces weight and increases the blade's torsional strength.

The handle is a chapter of its own. It is made of Pakkawood. This is a composite material of hardwood impregnated with resin, which retains the beautiful grain of wood but is much more resistant to moisture, cracking, and temperature changes than ordinary wood. The handle is ergonomically shaped and finished with a massive steel bird's head pommel with a lanyard hole. Safety during work is ensured by an elegantly curved S-shaped steel crossguard, which reliably protects your fingers from slipping onto the edge, even during forceful thrusts or chops.

The Legacy of Jim Bowie

This type of knife is named after the legendary Colonel James "Jim" Bowie, a hero of the Alamo. The original design was created by his brother Rezin P. Bowie as a heavy knife suitable for both hunting and close-quarters combat. It gained fame after the so-called Sandbar Fight in 1827. Since then, the Bowie knife has become a symbol of the American West, used by soldiers in the Civil War, buffalo hunters, and cowboys alike. Jackson's Bowie is a modern interpretation of this legend, adapted to today's standards.

Care and Maintenance

To ensure the knife serves you for many years, it needs to be looked after. Although the steel is stainless, always clean and dry it after use. If storing the knife long-term, do not leave it in the leather sheath, as leather can absorb moisture and cause spots on the blade. From time to time, treat the wooden handle and the blade with suitable oil (e.g., gun oil or special knife oil). Treat the leather sheath with beeswax-based leather care products to keep it supple and prevent cracking.

I recommend that you also acquire a high-quality sharpening stone or a pocket sharpener with this knife so that you can keep the edge in perfect condition wherever your travels take you.
