Historic Design and Construction

The design brings together two distinct traditions. The blade features the characteristic clip-point profile associated with Bowie knives, while the handle takes inspiration from European sabres. Belgian military sabres are particularly well documented from the first half of the 19th century; an 1848-pattern Belgian infantry sabre, for example, survives in a museum collection.

The Bowie knife itself is a characteristic 19th-century American knife design, closely associated with the American frontier. Its clip-point blade gives the knife its recognisable appearance. The Belgian Bowie is therefore not an exact reproduction of one particular historical original, but a modern knife deliberately combining historical European and American influences.

1075 High-Carbon Steel Blade

The blade is made from 1075 high-carbon steel. This type of steel is well suited to robust knives, offering a useful combination of toughness, durability and ease of sharpening. As with other high-carbon steels, it requires regular care because prolonged exposure to moisture can cause corrosion.

The broad blade and long clip-point tip reinforce the classic Bowie appearance. The shaped handle sits securely in the hand, while its downward-curved rear section helps prevent the hand from slipping forwards during use.

Micarta Handle

The handle scales are made from Micarta, a durable composite material widely used for knife handles. It offers good mechanical strength and a comfortable grip. Its contrasting layered pattern gives the knife a distinctive appearance that complements the historic styling. Metal rivets complete the robust construction.

Leather Sheath

The knife comes with a black leather sheath featuring stitched edges and a retaining strap over the handle. Always insert the knife carefully and fully into the sheath, and check that the retaining strap is securely fastened before carrying it.

Technical Specifications

Care and Safety

Keep the 1075 steel dry and regularly protect the blade with a suitable oil. After use, clean and dry the blade thoroughly before returning the knife to its sheath. If early signs of corrosion appear, remove them gently and apply a fresh protective coating.

The knife has a sharp blade and can cause serious injury if handled incorrectly. It is not intended for contact fencing, fighting or combat between people. Keep it out of the reach of children. When drawing or sheathing the knife, always keep the blade pointed away from yourself and other people.

Do not use the knife for levering, chopping metal or striking hard objects, as such use can damage the edge or blade. Do not leave the high-carbon steel blade exposed to moisture for prolonged periods.
