Hand-Crafted Medieval Leather Belt with Replaceable Forged Buckle
Historical Context and Proper Belt Wearing
In the High Middle Ages (around the 12th century), long belts fulfilled not only a practical but also a strongly aesthetic function. They served not merely to fasten a tunic but formed an essential carrying platform for weapons, pouches, or daggers. After conventionally fastening it into the buckle, the belt was often tied into a so-called medieval knot, where the long free end was looped under the secured strap and left to hang down stylishly. To ensure the belt fits you perfectly, please state your waist circumference in the order notes (or the circumference where you will wear the belt over your costume). The holes will be punched custom to your size. If no measurement is provided, the first hole is punched for a 90 cm (35.4 inches) circumference by default.
Safe Handling and Care of Leather and Steel
To ensure the massive cowhide retains its strength and necessary flexibility in the long term, the belt must be properly maintained. We recommend occasionally treating the leather surface with a high-quality beeswax-based balm. Never wash the belt in a washing machine and avoid soaking it unnecessarily. If you are caught in a downpour at a historical festival, let the belt dry naturally and slowly at room temperature. Never dry the leather in close proximity to an open fire or on a hot radiator, as rapid drying would lead to irreversible cracking and hardening. The forged mild steel buckle should be wiped lightly with oil occasionally to prevent surface rust.
To accompany this historical belt, we recommend purchasing a spacious medieval leather pouch from our range, which can be easily and safely suspended from it.
