St. Maurice Coat of Plates, Suede Brigandine 1250–1300
History You Can Wear
This type of torso protection, technically known as a Coat of Plates (or early Brigandine), represents the evolutionary link between chainmail and full plate armor. The original model, the sculpture of St. Maurice (created around 1250), depicts the saint in chainmail, over which he wears exactly this early form of armored vest. The rivets visible on the surface hold internal metal plates, which provided the wearer with solid protection without significantly restricting mobility.
This construction proved itself historically, and its mass use was confirmed by archaeological finds from mass graves after the Battle of Visby (1361). Now you can enjoy the same sense of security that knights had more than seven centuries ago.
Construction and Comfort
The base of the armor is sturdy suede leather, under which steel plates are riveted. This combination ensures solid protection against strikes. A great advantage of this model is its adaptability. Thanks to the system of straps and buckles on the back and sides, you can tighten the coat exactly according to your build and the layers of clothing you are wearing underneath. The lower part is split, allowing you comfortable leg movement, whether you are charging into attack or sitting in the saddle.
Usage Warning: Although the armor contains steel plates, it is a replica designed primarily for stage fencing, LARP, and historical reenactment. It is not certified for full-contact heavy combat like Buhurt (HMB, Battle of the Nations), where extreme stress could damage the leather or rivets. For your maximum comfort and safety, we recommend wearing a gambeson under the brigandine.

Care Instructions
To keep this piece looking like new for as long as possible, it requires a little care from you:
- Leather: Suede is susceptible to moisture and dirt. Clean it with a soft leather brush. If you get wet, let the armor dry slowly at room temperature (never near a heater or fire, as the leather would harden and crack).
- Metal: The internal plates and rivets are made of steel, which can rust. Regularly check the condition of the metal and treat it with preservation oil (e.g., WD-40 or similar), especially after events in damp environments.
- Storage: Store the armor in a dry and well-ventilated place.
