This sturdy, lightweight torso armour, also known as a brigandine is crafted from 2 mm thick vegetable-tanned leather. The chest and shoulders are reinforced with 2 mm thick leather pads or plates, each securely fastened with four antiqued brass rivets. The material and particular construction do not only afford a greater degree of mobility than the metal coat of plates or scale armour, but also add great visual appeal to the piece. The leather brigandine closes at the back with five sturdy brass-and-leather buckle straps anchored into position with brass rivets. The back straps are adjustable to size.
